Central Care Cancer Center is planning a celebration from 4:30-6:00 p.m. on June 6 at Heartland Cancer Center, 410 E. Spruce St., Garden City. The celebration will publicly recognize Central Care’s nationally accredited cancer care certification that it has achieved for its Garden City clinic. Coordinating the event with the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, Central Care will host a “Business After Hours,” providing hors dóeuvres and beverages during the celebration.
The public is invited to attend and visit with providers and staff of Heartland Cancer Center.
Early this year, Central Care successfully completed a three-year certification for oncology practices that meets nationally recognized standards for cancer care by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program. Central Care Cancer Center is one of only a few oncology clinics to achieve QOPI certification in the state of Kansas.
“It is commendable that we have earned the highest level of recognition in oncology care, but it was not unexpected,” said Dr. Claudia Perez-Tamayo, MD, FACR, FACRO, President of Central Care Cancer Center. “Our excellent doctors and staff have always been committed to providing the best care to our patients in Western Kansas. People need to know that they don’t have to travel to a metropolitan area for their care. In fact, oncology practices in many cities are not able to achieve this level of certification.
“We feel that a celebration for our QOPI recognition is important to commemorate this exceptional achievement,” said Brenda Bernard, Chief Nursing Officer for Central Care Cancer Center. “We appreciate the opportunity to share this exciting news with the community and explain how this certification positively affects the patients we care for. Our celebration is a come and go, so people can feel free to attend according to their schedules; we will make it a fun and informative evening.”
What is QOPI®?
QOPI is a nationally recognized program that identifies and evaluates medical oncology practices that are committed to delivering the highest quality of cancer care.
To earn QOPI® Certification, a practice undergoes the QOPI Certification Program (QCP®) through on-site reviews and peer reviews to evaluate the practice’s performance in areas that affect patient care and safety. Through the assessment of a practice’s processes and policies, as well as interviews with its staff, the practice is evaluated. Certification is awarded when a practice meets QCP’s rigorous standards.
